Operation Backpack® Under Way at Volunteers of America Delaware Valley

Non-profit to host a mini-golf fundraiser to support backpack needs throughout the year

(CAMDEN, NJ) – Volunteers of America Delaware Valley (VOADV) has launched their annual fundraiser, Operation Backpack®, collecting backpacks and school supplies throughout the summer.

“Every child deserves a fresh start at the beginning of the school year with a backpack filled with the supplies they need,” said Dan Lombardo, President and CEO. “With prices soaring, families across our region are having to save more and more. Operation Backpack donors empower children while helping parents focus on providing their families with other essentials like food and clothing.”

VOADV has public drop off sites throughout South Jersey and Philadelphia, an online shopping platform, and a site for monetary donations, so that donors can choose the giving option that works best for them. In Philadelphia, VOADV has partnered with Fire and Flood Rescue to collect backpacks for children, predominantly in the North Philadelphia section of the city.

Operation Mini Golf, a fundraiser to support Operation Backpack, is coming on September 12, 2024. Taking place at the Jersey Devil Mini Golf and Fun Center at 276 Route 73 S, Hammonton, NJ, the event will feature mini golf, a driving range, s’mores, ice cream, and a chance to fill more backpacks.

“Children and clients don’t just need backpacks in September,” Lombardo explained. “Operation Mini Golf will help ensure we are able to fulfill educational needs long beyond when the Operation Backpack campaign has ended.”
