Human Trafficking Awareness Month: VOADV’s Commitment to “Connecting the Dots”

January marks Human Trafficking Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about this pressing human rights issue. This year’s national awareness month theme, “Connecting the Dots,” underscores the importance of collaboration and a holistic approach to prevention. Throughout this month, and every day, VOADV reaffirms our commitment to providing services for survivors through partnerships, education and outreach.

The Importance of “Connecting the Dots”

The theme “Connecting the Dots” highlights the need to recognize and address the intersections between economic mobility, social relationships, technology, and the dangers of trafficking. At VOADV, “Connecting the Dots” is more than a theme; it is a daily mission. Through collaboration with law enforcement, government agencies, community stakeholders, and service providers, VOADV works to raise awareness, identify and help survivors and conduct law enforcement guided outreach.

Education and Awareness: A Key to Prevention

VOADV has also launched the Human Trafficking Education and Awareness Program, conducted in partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and local law enforcement. This program equips children and their families with the tools they need to recognize the early signs of trafficking. Participants learn about the risks, preventative measures, and what steps to take if they suspect someone they know is being trafficked. By educating communities, VOADV empowers individuals to protect themselves and others from falling victim to trafficking.

The Annual Human Trafficking Summit

As part of its ongoing efforts, VOADV hosts an annual Human Trafficking Summit, bringing together law enforcement, legislators, service providers, advocates and other stakeholders to share best practices and strategies. This summit provides a platform for discussing how to better support survivors and ensure justice for victims by aiding law enforcement in the prosecution of traffickers. These discussions are instrumental in strengthening the collective fight against trafficking.

Preventing and addressing human trafficking requires a community effort. VOADV’s initiatives demonstrate the power of partnership in making a tangible impact. To learn more visit https://www.voadv.org/humantrafficking/
