Amani House, Volunteers of America Delaware Valley’s 25-bed transitional housing program for men, is committed to providing comprehensive support to homeless men in Mercer County, NJ. Amani House offers a safe space where individuals can work towards stability and self-sufficiency through a variety of specialized programs and resources.
One of the key partnerships Amani House has developed is with the WorkWell program, a New Jersey-based initiative designed to help people reenter society after incarceration. WorkWell focuses on providing job training and life skills through ongoing training cycles. These programs are crucial for empowering participants with the tools and resources they need to secure employment and reintegrate into their communities. As of today, six individuals from Amani House have successfully completed the WorkWell program, gaining critical skills and moving forward in their journey toward self-reliance.
In addition to WorkWell, Amani House offers several other programs aimed at addressing the diverse needs of its residents. One such resource is the anger management classes, outsourced to the City of Trenton and held weekly at Mercer County Community College. These classes help individuals learn essential coping mechanisms and interpersonal skills.
Amani House also partners with local organizations to offer financial literacy workshops and resume-building sessions. These initiatives, hosted by a local church, aim to help residents with practical barriers to employment, such as financial literacy and job-seeking assistance.
The challenges that many homeless men face are multifaceted and deeply ingrained. It’s a common misconception that men should be able to quickly find employment, but the reality is far more complex., and unresolved childhood traumas. These barriers prevent them from.
Amani House offers not only shelter, but the necessary social service support. Many residents are also dealing with mental health issues or substance abuse – barriers that can prevent them from achieving stability, often trapping them in a cycle of homelessness, incarceration, and unemployment. As with all VOADV shelters, the Amani staff works with residents to address their needs, creating individualized plans that set them on a path toward permanent housing and gainful employment.
