Affordable Housing Update

Over the last 100 years, Volunteers of America Delaware Valley has become a trusted and valued provider of essential services to those in need of assistance. Veterans, women, families, young adults, seniors and individuals with specialized needs can find the support needed to achieve a life of independence with the help and guidance of our programs.

VOADV’s affordable and workforce housing programs provides individuals and families with the freedom of independent living, while fostering a communal support network and access to the vital social services needed to maintain a healthy living environment.

Despite impacts from COVID-19, April marked the opening of Brittin Village – VOADV’s newest affordable housing project located at the former Brittin Reserve Army Training Center in Pennsauken.

VOADV redeveloped the area into quality family and veteran rental units, consisting of 65-income restricted rental units and an additional unit for on-site management. Fourteen of the units will be set aside for veterans. The need for quality affordable housing in Southern New Jersey is undeniably overwhelming, as VOADV received more than 3,000 individual inquiries from those interested in securing quality and affordable housing at the community before it even opened.

While VOADV had t unfortunately postpone the official ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of Brittin Village, families were still able to move in and enjoy their new homes.

As one of our housing projects is completed, VOADV continues moving forward with the construction of the next project – Centerton Village in Mt. Laurel. When completed, Centerton Village will be a 103-unit rental community for families and veterans. The units will be located in two, four-story buildings.

“We’ve been moving along at Centerton Village,” said Owen McCabe, Senior Vice President of Acquisition and Development at VOADV. “It’s a big project – 103 units of affordable housing, with a focus on veterans. The project is progressing well.”

Centerton Village is expected to be completed in late 2020.
