RETREAT ENERGIZES BOARD MEMBERS AND SENIOR STAFF

A retreat for our board of directors and senior staff was held September 18 through 20 in Princeton, NJ.

“I thought it was important for all of us – members of the board as well as senior staff – to gather for an intensive and focused discussion about the best possible direction for this organization,” said Richard S. Mroz, Esq., who became board chairman on July 1. “With (board member) Fred Abbate doing a great job keeping us on task, we refined and re-energized our vision of the mission of Volunteers of America Delaware Valley,” Mroz added. “We accomplished a lot in two days.”

“There is an old saying in business that you need to retreat to move forward.  I truly feel that was the case with our retreat,” said Daniel L. Lombardo, our President and CEO.  “Thanks to the creativity of our facilitator Dr. Fred Abbate, with assistance from Joe Salema and Marcy Dalsey, we reshaped the vision and focus of our organization, recommitting our selves to those we serve.

“Building on the leadership provided by Board Chair Rick Mroz, with the energy of board members and staff, we clearly articulated our core values, assessed our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and charted the course for our future.  It was a great weekend full of hard work, friendship and laughter.  Thanks to all who participated.”
