Rumors to the contrary, I haven’t been part of Volunteers of America Delaware Valley since day one. Our parent organization was founded in Philadelphia in 1896; I came on board in 1988.

While our original mission – helping people overcome challenges and rebuild their lives – has endured, Volunteers of America Delaware Valley evolves and expands. Our first-rate professional staff continues to practice and perfect new methods to achieve the best of what we human services types call “outcomes.”

Some examples:

A homeless family finds permanent housing.

An ex-offender lands a full-time job.

A man or woman begins to recover from alcoholism, drug addiction, or mental illness.

These outcomes - and thousands of others like them - are not only the best for the people we serve. They encourage us to be our best. By “us” I mean all of us – staff, board members, volunteers, partners, and supporters. And because you wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t interested in what we do, I include you as well.
