ANNUAL 'FAMILY DAY'

More than 20 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Upsilon Delta Omega Chapter (Voorhees NJ) visited our Anna M. Sample Complex in Camden NJ for the fourth annual ‘Family Day’ on July 25. Family and friends of the sorority members also participated.

The homeless families at the complex enjoyed a day of food, fun and sun. Face painting, rope jumping, hula hooping and bubble blowing were early highlights for the little ones, and a picnic lunch along with some ice cold Rita’s water ice followed.  The DJ brought the beats and encouraged dancing and musical chairs.  

The annual ‘Family Day’ at Anna Sample is aligned with the Sorority’s Extraordinary Service Program Platform, the Black Family.   Its purpose is to support and promote strong, unified families.

“Each year this event gets progressively better,” Chapter President Gwen Cobb said. “It is very rewarding to see smiles on the faces of the kids and adults as they take their minds off any problems, and have some fun and fellowship for a day."
